Discounted Aspen Colorado Home Fetches Highest Sale in 2010

Real estate prices may be down considerably across Colorado’s ski resort towns, but some very high-end real estate continues to get sold in Aspen Colorado and Pitkin County.  A luxurious estate near the base of West Buttermilk sold this week for $31.5 million. This deal is thought to be the most expensive single-family home sale in Pitkin County in 2010.

It also is one of the most expensive single-family home purchases in Pitkin County history, not counting properties such as the $46 million sale of Mandalay Ranch.

The sale price was well below the list price of $60 million when it was completed in 2008 and also below the more recent list price of $47.5 million.  In past years, sales of $43 million, $37.5 million and $37.3 million have been recorded, while earlier this year a $24.5 million sale was documented.

The estate sits near the end of the West Buttermilk Road, just below the base of the West Buttermilk chairlift on 44 acres. It overlooks the Owl Creek valley and has views of both Buttermilk and the Snowmass Ski Area.  The main house has 13,877 square-feet and the property includes a 4,517 square-foot eight-stall horse barn and a 1,112 square-foot guest house.  The estate has an “old-world” feel to it with two master suites, a huge “great room,” a private office with fireplace, bath, shower and deck, as well as other luxurious perks such as a downstairs wine room with tasting table.
