Skier Visits Break 411,000

Good morning.

Yesterday’s Crested Butte News made it official. CBMR’s skier days were up 9% this season with over 410,000 skier days reported. Considering the ski company’s skier visit pinnacle of 560,000 in the middle of the 1990s and the valley of 2000 where we realized only 300,000 skier visits this is great news.

It certainly appears we are on a road to recovery. Our 9% increase should reflect the 20% increase in airline seats flying into Gunnison. I think it is obvious to everyone in Gunnison County that airplanes landing in Gunnison full of skiers and tourists equate to one thing: commerce.

Interestingly, the resort sold a record number of season passes this past season. These season pass holders accounted for 166,000 of the total skier visits. Maybe we all bought season passes this year because the day rate for a lift ticket is so high?

Thanks for visiting today,
