721 Maroon Ave, also known as the Superintendent’s House, epitomizes Crested Butte’s Victorian heritage. First built in the 1880s, the property was relocated to Maroon Avenue. Originally located on Big Mine Hill, this large wood frame dwelling served as the residence for the superintendent of Colorado Fuel & Iron Company’s mining and coke oven operations in the Crested Butte area from 1883 until 1952.  Moved to its present location in 1971, its design is representative of Colorado Fuel & Iron superintendent housing in company towns throughout the state of Colorado.  Built by the company, they were the most substantial and architecturally sophisticated residences in the community.

Today, the four bedroom, four bathroom property artfully combines historic distinction and modern refinement. The property has seen renovations over the years but still retains the original and beautifully reclaimed oak wood flooring and features gorgeous appointments including the wood staircase, crown molding, wainscoting, interior doors and gas fireplace.  The spacious, 1st level of the property features a comfortable open floor plan, something that is hard to find in Crested Butte. The open kitchen enjoys a breakfast nook, a six-burner Viking range and hood, Miele dishwasher, a stainless steel Amana refrigerator and attractive cabinetry and granite counters.

Natural light pours into the living spaces on both levels of the home yet the huge, mature Spruce trees and southern orientation on its parcel create a sense of privacy and seclusion. Upstairs, the stunning vaulted ceilings feature sky lights in each room and reclaimed wood beams in the master suite.

Located near town of Crested Butte amenities including Rainbow Park, the Rec Path, the Upper Loop trail system and the Slate River, the Superintendent’s House also features a landscaped yard, a classic covered front porch, a backyard paver patio perfect for summer gatherings and a detached 1-car garage in the rear.

The home is on Town of Crested Butte water and sewer and is heated by efficient hot water, radiant baseboards and the gas fireplace in the living room.
