Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Good day from Crested Butte,

Donald Trump says its an unbelievable time to buy a house. During his interview on Larry King Live recently, he states, "…its both a very tough time and a great opportunity. Its an unbelievable time to buy a house and especially if a bank happens to own it.."

And, 66% of Americans recently surveyed by Rasmussen Reports think home buying is the best investment most families can make, despite the recent U.S. housing market…

Winter Bookings Looking Good

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Good day from Crested Butte,

This winter season’s bookings are looking good for Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Jeff Moffett of Crested Butte Vacations reports positive numbers in an article today.

Borrowed from The Industry Report – September 22, 2008

….Checking in with Jeff Moffett of Crested Butte Central Reservations in Colorado, found bookings in three major areas ahead of last year at this time.

"We’ve been in the neighborhood of 400,000 skier visits the last couple of years, and if early trends continue, wholesale sales (through companies like ski.com or expedia.com), group and conference sales, and central reservation sales are all pacing ahead of last year," he told us.

Moffett said he feels very confident that "with an average-to-good snow year we’ll outpace that 400,000 figure. Those three distribution channels account for most of the lodging that’s booked, and all three of those are up over last year."

He said increased airline flights to Crested Butte from Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Denver are making the difference. "It’s much easier to get here, and we’re able to sell the higher fares."

Year to Date Numbers

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Good day from Crested Butte,

The market for real estate around here has picked up its pace after a sluggish early summer. Buyers seem to be enjoying the large inventory of available properties in all price ranges. Currently, we have over 700 residential properties actively listed and just over 320 land and ranch parcels for sale in our local market (from Almont north to Mt Crested Butte.)

Year to date, we’ve seen 76 residential sales representing a volume of $56+ million. The average sales price was $741,247. The softest segment of our market is vacant land and 35 acre ranch parcels. With growing inventories and quiet demand, land and ranch deals have reached only 26 sales ($15 million in volume) thus far in 2008. The average sales price was $550,000. We are definitely behind last year’s pace in terms of transactions and volume but these numbers reflect sustained demand for Crested Butte area property in the face of our national economic woes.

Ken Stone Is New Boss at CBMR

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s owner Tim Mueller continues his company’s restructuring process. Today, Ken Stone (previously VP and Chief Marketing Officer) assumes the role of Chief Operating Officer. See the company’s press release comments below:

Borrowed from CBMR’s August 29, 2008 Press Release:

“We are fortunate to have someone as qualified as Ken to lead the company,” said Tim Mueller , President and owner of Triple Peaks LLC, CBMR’s parent company. “He has been an important part of our executive team as Vice President of Marketing and has contributed significantly as we moved though a transition period this year.

CBMR has been undergoing corporate re-structuring over the past four months, filling a number of other top management positions.  During that period, Tim and Diane Mueller , owners of Triple Peaks LLC and CBMR, have been more directly involved in the day-to-day operation of the resort.

“As Ken steps into this position, it will allow Diane and me to move back into our role in the oversight of Triple Peaks ,” Mueller continued.  “We are pleased with all of the choices made in new management positions and look to Ken to help us continue the process of re-aligning our structure.”

Stone has been with CBMR for the past year, arriving from Telluride where he was a Vice President for Telluride Ski & Golf.  He has an extensive background in the ski resort and hospitality industry.  Stone headed the sales and marketing departments for CBMR and directed a re-branding effort that is helping to guide a new strategic direction for the company. “I am excited about the opportunity to take on this responsibility and to work with everyone at CBMR as we enter a new period in our company’s development,” said Stone.  “Crested Butte is truly an amazing place that has all the attributes to support the success of the resort and our community.”
