New buyers in The Lodge at Mountaineer Square or Prospect will be able to book vacations and activities in Crested Butte and world-wide through Crested Butte Travel. The services cover everything related to the top-notch experience of Crested Butte, from airline tickets, ski passes and VIP ski lessons to Teo Bowl tours, sleigh rides, spa time and fine dining. It can also be used to travel on business, to gallivant through the Napa wine country or to go snorkeling in Costa Rica. Crested Butte Travel will make arrangements for everything you can dream your vacation to be – you just have to buy some real estate.

An account through Travel Concierge Service will be provided based on the residence size and type purchased in the following increments: One-bedroom $10,000, Two-bedroom $15,000, Three-bedroom $20,000, Four-bedroom $25,000 and for a Prospect parcel its also $25,000. This offer is for the next six closings completed before April 16, 2009. The Travel Concierge Service can be used within five years of the date of closing.

No Russian Oil Money in Crested Butte Yet

The Russians are coming. The real estate market has slowed in Colorado ski resorts, but there are still people buying property – expensive property. The Aspen Times reported that a home in the Aspen area recently sold for $20.75 million, and another home in Snowmass Village sold for $14.5 million.  The buyer of the Snowmass home is a Russian oil man: Eugene Shvidler.  He is ranked No. 161 on the Forbes richest people list in 2007. He is also a business partner of Roman Abramovich, an oil tycoon from Russian who paid $36 million in April of this year for an estate outside of Aspen.

A Silver Lining: Western US Resort Properties

Good day from Crested Butte,

According to Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®, top resort destinations in the Rocky Mountain West could easily see house-price gains as much as 30 percent to 50 percent over the next five years.

Yun, the keynote speaker at the June semi-annual conference of the Rocky Mountain Resort Alliance (RMRA), an association representing the boards of REALTORS® of 11 Western premier destination ski resorts, said mountain resort properties, like those in Aspen, Colo., Park City, Utah, and Jackson Hole, Wyo., are not as prone to subprime loan exposure like other residential areas.

Dennis Hanlon, founder and president of the Rocky Mountain Resort Alliance, said in spite of the current housing climate, high-end properties throughout the West are still selling. “People are still buying second homes and vacation homes. Typically these transactions are cash deals and do not involve financing."

Market Showing Strong Signs

Good day from Crested Butte,

Over 10 single family homes valued from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 in our local market have gone under contract in recent days. We have over 35 properties under contract with an average value of just over $1,000,000. This spike in demand reflects the strong July shopping activity we experienced. It also demonstrates that Crested Butte is bucking some of the negative national economic publicity and leveraging its own media attention. (See Outside Magazine and Sunset Magazine – August Issues)
