No Traffic Lights But A New 4 Way Stop in Crested Butte

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Good day,

Crested Butte doesn’t have any parking meters or traffic lights (thank goodness) but we do have a new main intersection.  The next time you are in Crested Butte you will most likely travel through the town’s newly upgraded main 4 way stop at Elk Avenue and 6th Street aka Highway 135. The 4 way makeover is much improved with better curbs, gutters, bus stops, pedestrian cross walks and green zones. The parking for the many businesses at the 4 way including our real estate offices is also much improved.

This photo below was taken from my office window and is a progress check as of June 28.

Almost a Record – Over 12 million Skier Visits

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Good morning,

This week in Crested Butte, the Colorado Ski Country USA trade group gathered for their annual meeting to review the results of the 2007-2008 ski season. As one might imagine, the record snowfalls recorded throughout the 26 Colorado Ski Country USA member resorts resulted in big time skier visit numbers.

The 26 ski resorts throughout our state realized 12,535,913 skier days during the 2007-08 season. This was almost a record and second only to last season’s record total of 12,566,299.

The abundant snow and weak U.S. dollar also attracted foreign skiers. Colorado saw a 21-percent jump in international skier visits.

“The fact that Colorado Ski Country achieved more than 12 and a half million skier visits in a year that had its share of distractions says great things about the Colorado brand, the dedication of our guests and the caliber of our member resorts,” said outgoing Ski Country president and CEO Rob Perlman.

Key Mountain Passes to Open Soon

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Good morning,

Gunnison County has begun to clear the roads across two critical mountain passes in the Crested Butte area that are still blocked with this past season’s record snow. Both Kebler Pass to the west and Cottonwood Pass to the east are usually open by Memorial Day, but this year area officials hope for June 15 openings. The huge Ride the Rockies parade of 2,000 bicycle riders is scheduled to cross Cottonwood Pass on the way to Buena Vista on June 20.
